Many know them and have had to deal with them because they frequently used to troubleshoot freezing fire hoses,
especially if small diameter, but they have many other applications that can solve problems in everyday life especiallyin places where the temperatures are quite cold in winter.

Applications and control
There are various types of cables and use but can mainly be divided into three categories of use and two types of control:
Use
- Heating cable for slopes;
- Heating cable for frost protection;
- Heating cable to maintain liquids in temperature.
Control
- Costant power heating (Don't need a thermostat to control the temperature, the usage is however an additional option (The polymers that are insulated wires have the property of changing its resistance according to the temperature).
- Activated by thermostat (require for their operation a thermostat)
Heating cable for slopes
Are primarily used to prevent the formation of ice on the ascent and descent ramps in remittances and access driveway with significant gradients.Serpentine are arranged under the layer of sand and concrete ramps
.
Heating cable for frost protection
Are used to avoid freezing pipes and the formation of ice on roofs and gutters.
the cables on pipes are normally laid down with fiberglass tape in a spiral for large diameter pipes or along the tube.
Heating cable to maintain liquids in temperature
Are used for maintaining the temperature of fluids.
Can be arranged linearly on the tube or spiral and they are normally placed below the insulation of the tube.
The heating cable must not pass through walls rei.
Cables selection
Cables selections must take account of the use for which they are intended and operating temperatures.
There are various power cables in W/m .
To make easier the understanding we take into consideration the cables produced by Fantini Cosmi.
K13c - K17c are two models of constant power heating cales, the first provides a power of 15W/m the second 17W/m, both cables cannot cut 4 sizes in length.
K15a Heating cable for frost protection,
is used to avoid freezing pipes and the formation of ice on roofs and gutters.
The power is 15 W/m.
Recommended protection 16A for max 100m of cable.
The cable can be cut, it is necessary to use a kit for the cold tail and the end part.
K20A - K30A - K40A are models for maintaining fluid temperature inside pipes or other containers, respectively 20 W/m 30 W/m 40 W/m.
Recommended protection 25A for max 155m of KA20, 32A for max 120m of KA30 and 32A for max 100m of K40A.
The cable can be cut, it is necessary to use a kit for the cold tail and the end part.
K55A - K65A are two models used for maintaining the temperature of fluids inside pipes or other containers
with high temperature (for example sanitary water).
The working temperature is 55° C for K55A and 65°C for K65A.
Recommended protection 10A for max 50 m, 16A for max 80 m, 20A for max max 120m.
The cable can be cut, it is necessary to use a kit for the cold tail and the end part.
K12C is a frost protection cable, the power is 12W/m, need a thermostat for its use.
They are provided in 3 sizes 25m, 50m, and 75m.
Recommended protection 6A
For the installation of the heating cables must be used the accessories specified by the manufacturer of the cable (fixing tapes, boxes, ecc.).
The heating cables are manufactured by several companies including:
FANTINI COSMI, TEMAR, RAY TECH, TECNOLARIO SERVICE, ELMITI, ELETTROGAMMA, TECAM, ROTFIL, CALORFLEX.
